THE FIRST
KRAKOW CLUB |
|
Was established in 1996 by Ewa Nowicka, who invited local prominent ladies representing various professions. The charter was given on the 26th of May by Irmeli Thorsonen, who was then the President of European Federation SI. We were honoured by Danuta Piontek, the founder of Polish Soroptimism and Sisters from SI Club of La Gruyer - Switzerland as Godmothers. During the last ten years we’ve made contacts with several clubs in Europe. Some of these resulted in signing Friendship Links with following clubs:
And then we started to seek opportunities to work for others. Our first project was to provide the financial support to the school of mentally handicapped children. Since than we have been collecting money by organising charity balls, lotteries, etc. Our most recent project is to support building of the “Farm of Life”, the centre for adults with autism. It is a very important project, since there are many centres for autistic children, and no such for adults. This initiative has been supported already by our two Link Clubs: Paris – Neuilly and Wilhelmshaven. In order to be in continuous touch with other SI clubs and its members we organise get together parties every December. Apart of meeting others it is an opportunity for them to take part in Krakow cultural life. Every time there is a performance, a play, a concert, etc. that they take part in. On top of that that there is a Santa Claus, an exchange of small gifts. This has already proved to be the best way of exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and staying a Soroptimist family.
Now our Club has 20 members. PRESIDENTS OF THE CLUB: Ewa Nowicka /1996 – 1998/ Krystyna Święcicka Wójcik /1998 – 2000/ Grażyna Smarzewska /2000 -2002/ Jolanta Kwiecień – Wcisło /2002 – 2004/ Elżbieta Roszczynialska /2004 – 2006/
