KRAKOW CLUB |
|
When we’ve learned about a young, talented violinist, who was in a desperate need for money to enrich her musical education we made the decision to support Weronika Mokrzycka by funding a scholarship. Thank to our help she could take part in workshops in Łańcut. Thanks to the kind contribution of our Link clubs from England and France we have purchased the new instrument for Weronika. In return, she performs on her new violin at our official meetings adding splendour to them. We have been assisting her now for 6 years. Szymon Krzemień is the next scholarship awarded boy. We also take care of “Promyki Krakowa” – The Sunbeams of Krakow” a musical group from the School of Music, who are a real ambassador of Polish culture abroad. To promote our ladies of our own city, we have introduced an honorary title of the “Krakovian Lady of the Year”. The first lady awarded with this title was Elżbieta Penderecka - the music manager, who is the organiser of yearly Easter Beethoven Festival. The second one was Anna Dymna – the well known and admired Krakow actress involved very much in charity activities. Third year’s title went to Maria Kopczyńska – Kowalczykowa, MD - who spent most of her energy on promoting the idea of preventing breast cancer. Next year saw Professor Maria Nowakowska - the vice - rector of the Jagiellonian University for her personal contribution in building the image of the University in the world. In the year 2003 Maria Ziemianin - the editor, for an unusual gift for finding out the most important factors in human lives, for the cycle of editorials “The two of us together”, and for the courage she faces her own life with. Next year the title was given to Alina Perzanowska – the psychologist, the chairwoman of Foundation “Community of Hope” and initiator of “The Farm of Life” for autistic adults. Maria Rostworowska was awarded the title in 2005 for the wise and touching biographies bringing back to life forgotten personages of Krakow. Recently our club has joined the European Project “Women Building Peace”. We turned to the school in Niepołomice whose pupils went for an exchange to Denmark thanks to Hanne Jensbo and Krakow Soroptimists to make Peace Dolls. The dolls will be auctioned in September to help the "Farm of Life”.
